#46 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Heroes, Hearthsworn Fighter

Super Dungeon Explore, Heroes, Hearthsworn Fighter

Introduction

Another brown model, I don't really mind, but brown again? Otherwise an OK model. Hes a sword Axe and board kinda dwarf who had very little else to show under the beard.

Painting

Step By Step

  1. Armour: Brown (Minitaire, Bark)
  2. Beard and Hair: Brown (Reaper, Woodland Brown)
  3. Skin: Skin (Reaper, Caucasian Flesh)
  4. Weapon and Shield: Silver (Army Painter, Gun metal)
  5. Armour Trim: Gold (Army Painter, Greedy Gold)
  6. Horns: Cream (P3, Menoth White Base)
  7. Eyes: White (P3, Menoth White Highlight)
  8. Pupils: Black (Army Painter, Matt Black)
  9. Base: Black (Army Painter, Matt Black)
  10. Base Dry Brush: White (P3, Menoth White Highlight)
  11. Ink Model: Black (Army Painter Ink, Dark Tone)

Conclusion

The brown did work really well against the gold, I think I may use that again in other models.

I also did the pupils a lot better than I expected I was shaking like crazy.

Would recommend.

#45 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Heroes, Herald of Vulcanis

Super Dungeon Explore, Heroes, Herald of Vulcanis

Painting

Step By Step

  1. Skin: Flesh (Reaper, Caucasian Flesh)
  2. Armour: Gold (Army Painter, Greedy Gold)
  3. Cape: Red (P3, Sanguine Base)
  4. Cape Dry Brush: Red (P3, Sanguine Highlight)
  5. Shoes and Wrist bands: Brown (Minitaire, Bark)
  6. Weapons: Silver (Army Painter, Gun Metal)
  7. Eyes and Mouth: Red (Army Painter, Brilliant Red)

  9. Ink Armour: Brown (Army Painter Ink, Soft Tone)
  10. Base: Black (Army Painter, Matt Black)
  11. Base Dry Brush: White (P3, Menoth White Highlight)

Conclusion

While I wasn't loving this model as I painted as soon as I hit the purple ink it all worked. I would definitely do this combo again on any "night elf" models.

#43 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Heroes, Accessories

Super Dungeon Explore, Heroes, Accessories

Introduction

I painted a batch of the chests and chest monsters to round out the accessories for Super Dungeon Explore, I got inspiration from google images ones again. I decided I wanted a batch of appearances for the chests.

I figured red, green, blue, brown for wood and purple as I had a bunch of ink of different colours to try out.

Painting

 Step By Step

Red
  1. Paint the entire mode: red (Minitaire, Angelic Blood)
  2. Paint the raised metal: silver (Army Painter, Gun metal)
  3. Paint the raised metal: gold (Army Painter, Greedy Gold)
  4. Ink the mode: red (Army Painter Ink, Red)

Green
  1. Paint the entire mode: green (Minitaire, Fresh Grass)
  2. Paint the raised metal: silver (Army Painter, Gun metal)
  3. Ink the mode: green (Army Painter Ink, Green)
Blue
  1. Paint the entire mode: blue (Minitaire, Blue Lagoon)
  2. Paint the raised metal: silver (Army Painter, Gun metal)
  3. Ink the mode: blue (Army Painter Ink, Blue)
Brown
  1. Paint the entire mode: brown (Minitaire, Bark)
  2. Paint the raised metal: silver (Army Painter, Gun metal)
  3. Paint the highlight raised metal: gold (Army Painter, Greedy Gold)
  4. Ink the mode: brown (Army Painter Ink, Soft Tone)

Boo Booty
  1. Paint the entire mode: brown (Minitaire, Base Grey)
  2. Paint the raised metal: silver (Army Painter, Gun metal)
  3. Paint the highlight raised metal: gold (Army Painter, Greedy Gold)
  4. Ink the mode: purple (Army Painter Ink, Purple)

Conclusion

When I first started I had an Idea I would like the Red Green Blue ones the best and feel reget over the boo booty chests. Oddly enough I hated the red while loved the Purple Boo Booty.

Would Recommend.

#42 Introduction Super Dungeon Explore, Heroes

Super Dungeon Explore, Heroes

Introduction

Part 5 and Finale of Super Dungeon Explore, These guys have warn me down to a bloody nub of my former self, I'm almost there and kinda proud of myself to boot.

My daughter has already had a shot at Princess Ruby, the original intention was my children to each grab a model and paint it, Ill see how that goes.

The Models

Deeproot Scout

Princess Ruby (Already painted 50% by my daughter)

Deeproot Druid/Angry Bear

Claw Tribe Barbarian

 Ember Mage

Glimmerdusk Ranger

Hearthsworn Fighter

Hexcast Sorceress

Riftling Rogue

Royal Paladin

Star Guild Sapper

Herald of Vulcanis

Accessories

Painting

I wont go into details the painting steps for these guys, each one is going to be different and describing it now would be an exercise in futility.

Conclusion

Now for the fun of roughly 12 different colour schemes lets hope they get distinct enough.

#41 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons

Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons

Introduction

Well I feel OK I've knocked out another set. The simple paint scheme was a blessing and a curse, I felt that I enjoyed painting these guys more with the simple scheme but I worry that being so simple means that I didn't put in enough effort.

The Models

Hatchlings

Wyrmling

Whelp

Egg Clutch

Starfire

Conclusion

Overall I think these were good fun to paint I really enjoyed the air brush heavy painting and tried to spend a little time getting a smooth colouring on the models.

I do think the Egg Clutch needed to be a different colour the green really does look out of place with the rest but I'm OK with that I took a chance and followed through.

#40 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Starfire

Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Starfire

Introduction

So here it is a dragon an actual dragon, in my head all dragons are red so yep a red dragon (You can thank baldur's gate and quest for glory for that). Anyway I went with a simplistic paint job to try and make it a uniform look with the other models in the dragon range.

Painting

Step By Step

  1. Paint the body: red (Minitaire, Angelic Blood)
  2. Paint the head: purple (Minitaire, Ecchymose)
  3. Paint the eyes: green (Minitaire, Fresh Grass)
  4. Paint the nails, teeth and spines: white (P3, Menoth white highlight)
  5. Paint the base: black (Army Painter, Matt Black)
  6. Dry brush base: white (P3, Menoth white highlight)
  7. Ink model: black (Army Painter Ink, Dark Tone)

Conclusion

While the paint job is simplistic it seems like a really good fit for the dragons and I figure if I play around with it any more I can only make it worse.

Would Recommend.

#39 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Egg Clutch

Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Egg Clutch

Introduction

Well the egg clutch needed to be bone with another colour and I had only a few choices in the dragons range, essentially I've used red, purple and green, and I really didnt want any more red or purple so green it was.

It matches the eyes of the other models so its not entirely out of place.

Painting

Step By Step

  1. Paint the Base: Black (Army Painter, Matt Black)
  2. Paint the crystal: Green (Minitaire, Fresh Grass)
  3. Paint the bones and eggs: Cream (P3, Menoth White Base)
  4. Drybrush the model: White (P3, Menoth White Highlight)
  5. Ink the Crystal: Green (Army Painter Ink, Green Tone)
  6. Ink the Bones and eggs: (Army Painter Ink, Soft Tone)

Conclusion

I think it turned out ok, I still remain mixed on the green but at least the model holds together the cream and soft tone work really well together.

Would Recommend.

#38 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Whelp

Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Whelp

Introduction

The third and last of the small critters for the dragons, again same scheme, I did take some extra time on the back to try get the spines to pop out more.

Painting

Step By Step

  1. Paint the body: red (Minitaire, Angelic Blood)
  2. Paint the head: purple (Minitaire, Ecchymose)
  3. Paint the eyes: green (Minitaire, Fresh Grass)
  4. Paint the spines and nails: white (P3, Menoth white highlight)
  5. Paint the base: black (Army Painter, Matt Black)
  6. Dry brush base: white (P3, Menoth white highlight)
  7. Ink model: black (Army Painter Ink, Dark Tone)

Conclusion

With the same scheme they aren't that exciting but they will look cohesive on the table together which is sometimes more important.

Would Recommend.

#37 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Wyrmling

Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Wyrmling

Introduction

The second of the dragons range, They again were simple models and I knocked them out quickly. Again I went for the same paint scheme to keep them uniform on the table.

Painting

Step By Step

  1. Paint the body: red (Minitaire, Angelic Blood)
  2. Paint the head: purple (Minitaire, Ecchymose)
  3. Paint the eyes: green (Minitaire, Fresh Grass)
  4. Paint the spines: white (P3, Menoth white highlight)
  5. Paint the base: black (Army Painter, Matt Black)
  6. Dry brush base: white (P3, Menoth white highlight)
  7. Ink model: black (Army Painter Ink, Dark Tone)

Conclusion

I had a heap of trouble with the arms and legs which are pressed against the body I was looking for nails on both and decided in the end to ignore them if they were there.

#36 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Hatchlings

Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons, Hatchlings

Introduction

The first of the dragon model, Initially I thought they were rats and part of the kobolds until I looked at the cards. I went for a uniform paint scheme across the dragons which wasn't very complicated but I think will create a nice uniform result.

Painting

Step By Step

  1. Paint the body: red (Minitaire, Angelic Blood)
  2. Paint the head: purple (Minitaire, Ecchymose)
  3. Paint the eyes: green (Minitaire, Fresh Grass)
  4. Paint the nails: white (P3, Menoth white highlight)
  5. Paint the base: black (Army Painter, Matt Black)
  6. Dry brush base: white (P3, Menoth white highlight)
  7. Ink model: black (Army Painter Ink, Dark Tone)

Conclusion

While I feel the models are simple I do think they turned out quite good.

Would Recommend.

#35 Introduction, Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons

Super Dungeon Explore, Dragons

Introduction

Part 4 of Super Dungeon Explore, The Joy painting a dragon is strong in this set, making a great change from the hordes of kobolds.

The Models

Hatchlings

Wyrmling

Whelp

Egg Clutch

Starfire

Painting

Looking at the models and stat cards, these guys are going to be:
  • red
  • orange highlights
  • Perhaps black or gray to make areas stronger
  • Lots of airbrushing.

Conclusion

I'm really looking forward to painting Starfire, the other stuff is going to be fairly generic.

The Plan

Well I've cleared out a lot of the historical sets, I've painted two sets of super dungeon explore and only bought one new model its a wonderful miracle. The plan moving forward is to polish off one fun thing for every "non-fun" thing on my list. So expect something more interesting (that I find of course) next.

Change of -44

#33 Painted, Super Dungeon Explore, Kobolds

Super Dungeon Explore, Kobolds

Introduction

So these guys are done, what a ride. First I hated them, second I hated them even more then suddenly I was inspired and the finished on a high note.

They all look reasonably good and they are definitely ready for a trip to the tabletop.

Model

Kucklehead

Ironscale

Flinger

Gouger

Dragon Priest

Kobold Warrens

Rex

Conclusion

I liked the paint scheme, I would change the Warrens a little maybe as they dont theme together overly well with the other blue models. I think the dragon priests were a high point with the red hopefully going to tie in well with the dragon model I will paint in the future.
