Malifaux, The Torch and the Blade - Sonnia Criid
Introduction
After picking up, The Brewmaster box I felt like something more central to the game. I really wanted a master who was easier to play but my friend had already purchased Lady Justice and The Viktoria's which are considered easy, that left me with few choices. In the end I went Sonnia Criid, while knowing very little about her except for the Fluff from the 1.5 rules and the fact she was the "Anti-Arcanists" master and knowing my friend was playing Rasputina off the bat it seemed like a good fit.
Whats in the Box?
Usual cards and bases, everything was on 1 sprue so no issues generally.Sonnia Criid
Love the model, she looks kinda evil and with the flaming weapon she stand out.Samael Hopkins
Didn't really like this model, I liked the hammer but otherwise hes kinda a brown mess for me. I could have gone nuts and done random colours but I think western has a certain aesthetic, which is brown, guess I'm never buying the OrtegaPurifying Flame
Great model, I like the look and being able to dry brush the chest and bring out the bones is awesome, I really easy model to make look good (with and airbrush).3xWitchling Stalkers
Heads up these guys are one piece models, yes I moan if they are 30 bits I also moan if they are 1. It really feels like they were a blob of plastic when you look at them on the sprue, oddly I didn't hate them as much when I had them painted.Assembly
As previously pointed out the Witchlings are one piece models, so no assembly there.Criid herself is fine the model is clean and the leg joins seem solid enough, the face did give me a join line I didnt notice till I painted (my eyes are horrible), otherwise easy.
I hated assembling Purifying Flame, his leg join is terrible, its two small points and for whatever reason I couldnt get the join right in one go, eventually I glued one side and bent the other side into place.
Samael is a weird model, the thing hanging between his legs is in a bunch of bit for whatever reason and there are some other small fiddly bits off his belt. Now Guess which ones my son made disappear. I thought about green stuffing up a replacement and gave up, now hes got a less full belt but more awesome life leaving his stuff at home.

Basing
I used filler to create a base carve in some lines I went for odd lines and joins as I figured they were in a crazy kinda world being Witch Hunters etc, when dry I painted them black and then I chose an orange (Reaper, Burning Orange) to lightly dry brush over to make red'ish earth. I also inked Black (Army Painter Ink, Dark) into the gaps to make the lines stronger. Finally for the two "Flaming" models I added the same airbrush highlights for the flame effect to the base adding light to it.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed this crew a lot more than I thought. I feel like I didn't do the witchlings justice but they turned out better than idea I had in my head.Would recommend.
8/10
