Warmachine, Protectorate of Menoth
Introduction
This is the project that inspired me back into miniatures after a ten year break. I had half painted these guys about 10 years ago, some had a wonderful black primer paint job while others had been painted. Now because these are so old they are Pewter, meaning a bowel of acetone will clean them up really fast, after letting them sit for 10 minutes and then a scrub with an toothbrush they were good as new... Sadly no, there was some damage from the long period of storage. The jacks had various bits broken and the grenadiers leader had hit weapons head broken clean off.
Whats did I paint?
That's a wonderful question, looking back I played 3 real games of Warmachine before it got packed away, So I have very little idea of the name's of everything. After a little searching I came across my original box that had all my cards in it.
High Exemplar Kreoss
Grand Scrutator Severius
Redeemer
Repenter
Revenger
Crusader
Guardian
Holy Zealots
Assembly
Everything was fairly easy except for the broken sections mentioned in the introduction. The arm sockets on the jacks at least in the pewter are very good same with the torso's.
The biggest issues as I see it was the Guardian, those long poles are always going to get broken off eventually.
Painting
One of the joys in my opinion of Warmachine and Hordes would be the faction paint sets. Yes I am aware other companies provide paint sets just not as cheap or as useful. I personally used Citadel paints the first time I painted these guys. After Striping them I used P3 and I really like the solidness of the paints.Sadly I got some very thick sections learning to paint again, but that's what this is all about learning to paint better.
I bought Protectorate Colours as that's what I was painting. The only issue with the paints is the flip top lids yes it keeps the sealed but it also builds up a heap of gunk and impossible to pour into a airbrush and they are way too thick to spray without effort.
Basing
Being my first models after returning to miniatures, I did what I had learned to do years ago, PVA and static grass, it looks bad but at least its not just black. Conclusion
I definitely want to paint some more Warmachine/Hordes, one of my friends has an army to be painted so once he gets round to his part I may play catch up. Though I think Ill go with something different again just for fun.Would recommend.
7/10
